Spring Budget 2017 date announced

The government will publish its Spring Budget on Wednesday 8 March 2017.

The Spring Budget will introduce tax legislations and the latest economic forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).

As announced in Autumn Statement 2016, this report will be the last Budget take place in March as it moves to the autumn.

Following the spring 2017 Budget, the Budget will move to the autumn. A statement responding to OBR forecasts will follow in the spring of 2018 but the chancellor was keen to stress that it will not be a “major fiscal event”.

In his speech at the final Autumn Statement, chancellor Philip Hammond, said:

“No other major economy makes hundreds of tax changes twice a year, and neither should we.

“If unexpected changes in the economy require it, then I will, of course, announce actions at the Spring Statement, but I won’t make significant changes twice a year just for the sake of it.”
